The OLD Nickelodeon

I love watching television. That's a fact. Back during my early elementary days, I didn't watch Cartoon Network. I didn't watch Disney Channel (because we didn't have that on our cable, so I had no idea it even existed.) I watched Nickelodeon. I loved that TV Station. Nickelodeon was on Channel 38 on our crappy cable back then. I grew up watching Nickelodeon. But then, after a few joyous years, I stopped. Why? Well, the shows changed. The shows that I loved got canned, and no longer aired. A new generation of shows started swomping in...and I wasn't a fan of those shows. I stopped watching Nickelodeon. In my opinion, the old Nick Shows were better. Here are some of my faves. (Wow, I had a lot of favorite shows! I have a feeling this is going to be a loooooooooong entry.)

The Nickelodeon Logo.
I remember one commercial portion wherein they asked random kids to spell Nickelodeon. I tried spelling the word on my own, but I couldn't. The one kid got it right, so I learned from him (it was a him, I think). I learned to spell a new word! NICKELODEON! Nick-nick-nick-ni-nick-nick-nick-nickelodeon! See, who told you you watching TV is a total waste of time? No it is not!

Moving on. My favorite shows from the Old Nickelodeon. Every weekday, after I eat my breakfast (Yes, I ate breakfast back then) and after my bath, my Mom would turn on the T.V. and let me watch two of my favorite shows back then. Yeah, I woke up early in the morning so I could watch TV. Hehe. Anyway, the morning shows were Rugrats and Hey Arnold! .

First, Rugrats. Talking babies. Come on, they were cute and I found them! I loved bald-headed Tommy, the naughty twins Phil and Lil, fearful Chuckie and even the evil Angelica!!! Plus, they were babies..and they could speak (to each other at least). They may have mispronounced a lot of words, and did really gross stuff...but that was what I loved about the show! It was light and funny. And very entertaining, for the young version of me at least. There was never one boring episode. Oh, one word I remember: the "compooper". Cute!

Second, Hey Arnold! From babies to 4th grade kids. I still remember most of the characters...Arnold the Football Headed boy. Helga Pataki the Meanie, Gerald Johanssen the black kid with the really tall hair (sort of like Marge Simpson's hair). The minor characters like the Clumsy Eugene, Rich GirlRonda, Helga's best friend Phoebe and fat wait...what's his name...crap. I forgot the fat kid's name. Anyway, Arnold lives with his grandparents, because his parents died in a plane crash when he was still a baby. Arnold is basically a nice kid, but sometimes people take him for granted. Oh, and Helga has a huge crush on him. She carries this locket around which has Arnold's picture on it and kisses it every time Arnold passes by. Of course, she is mean to Arnold to cover-up her true feelings. She used to punch this kid all the time. I forgot his name too. OH!! The Fat Kid's name is Harold! Fat Harold, and Chocolate Boy. The boy who loves chocolate.

Then during lunch breaks, my Mom would pick me up from school. I would eat my lunch in the car. When I'd get home, I'd change into another set of uniforms and watch...Blue's Clues! Mr. Salt and Mrs. Pepper. Their baby Pepprica. Mailbox. The Handy Dandy Notebook. Thinking Chair. Magenta (Magenta is a boy!), Blue (Blue is a girl!), and that mean green puppy. Of course, I liked Steve better. But then apparently he "went off to college", so his brother Joe took over. I didn't like him. He was annoying, and a bad singer.

Then the shows after school and on weekends. I watch TV after I studied, and did my homework of course. *wink*

ALL THAT. ALL THAT! ALL THAT was awesome!!! The cast were composed of natural comedians and commediens, the script and scenes were hilarious! I am talking of the old All That. Do you remember Kenan? Kel? Lori Beth? the little girl who is now Amanda Bynes? All of them? The part where Lori Beth was a news reporter...Amanda's Ask Ashley...the end where there would be musical guests. And the cast would say, "it's ALLLLL THAT!" Also, I loved their credits at the beginning...when the cast were jumping while being introduced. Anyway, the later seasons of this show was just plain boring and dull. It wasn't funny anymore.

"Who loves orange soda? K-K-K K-Kel loves orange soda. Is it true? Mm-hmm! I do, I do, I do-Ooh!" Sound familiar? Yeap! It's Kenan and Kel! Kenan and Kel were two stars of the hilarious All That show, and they kept the audience laughing in their own show. In the Kenan and Kel show, the best friends would be in crazy, but hilarious situations. I will never forget how Kel professes his love for orange soda, and how he would get free orange soda from the grocery store where Kenan worked. I still remember the mananer's name. Chris Potter. hahaha!

Those were the shows that I needed to watch everyday. Of course, I liked other shows too..such as:

Rocket Power! Believe me, I wanted to learn how to skate and surf because of this show. Tsk. And to live in a house shaped like a boat. Well, half of a boat. I just thought they lived a really, really, cool life.

I like shows that have morals. Are You Afraid of the Dark? is a show that have morals to share with the viewers. A group of kids sit around a campfire and share scary stories. There stories weren't soooooo scary, but some did creep me out. I was a kid. Come on.

The Wild Thornberrys!
Ok, when I watched this show. I wanted to travel around the world and live in a "Combie" too. That's what the family called their car that could transform into a boat, and had really cool weapons in case of dangerous situations. Eliza, the girl who could talk to animals had her annoying moments, but I liked her still. Debbie, the big sister was...everything a big sister should be like! hahaha! Well, no. She didn't really care about anything other than herself. Mr. & Mrs. Thornberry were pretty entertaining. I liked Darwin the Chipanzee and the jungle boy kid...I forgot his name. Oh, Donny!!! I think I mispelled it.

Skeeter. AAAAAHHH, Cousin Skeeter. The puppet who ate, drank, talked, danced, sung, write, read...everything. The show was enternating. I liked the characters. I forgot the two lead human character's names though, but still. The show was good. Skeeter was funny, and I liked their theme song! But...I don't remember how it goes anymore. hahaha!

I wasn't all about the cartoons and comedy shows. I watched those action/game shows too! Like Figure it Out, The Legends of the Hidden Temple, and Guts!

Figure it Out! It made my brain work. I tried to figure out the words too. Using all the clues and everything. The contestants were usually stars from All That, so I watched it. The host was pretty cool too. Also, at the end of the show, they would have these people who had absurd talents. One kid cried milk! MILK! :-&

The Legends of the Hidden Temple

GUTS

Of course, there were shows that I didn't like at all. At my age, I already thougt they were stupid! No offense to the fans though.

Rocko's Modern Life

I disliked Catdog and AAHH Real Monsters too. tsk tsk. I didn't bother google-ing for the pictures. Pfft.

Anyway, these brought back a lot of memories. Reminded me how much I loved these shows. Okay, I'm gonna stop now. My fingers hurt. My back hurt. My eyes hurt.
